Countertop samples at Lincoln Floor and Design
Solid surface (brands like Corian, Wilsonart, and Avonite) is a non-porous, seamless material that can be shaped, routed, and repaired on-site. Scratches sand out — a major advantage over stone or laminate.
Pros
  • Seamless integrated sinks
  • Repairable — scratches sand out
  • Non-porous, hygienic
  • Wide color range
  • Lower cost than stone
Cons
  • Can scratch more than quartz
  • Less heat resistant than stone
  • Less premium than marble
Extremely hard, heat and scratch resistant. Beautiful but cannot be repaired if chipped. Higher price point. Great for primary kitchens.
Best for
Primary kitchens, high-end renovations
Natural stone with unique veining. Requires annual sealing. Heat resistant, heavy, and permanent. Every slab is one of a kind.
Best for
Permanent kitchens where character matters
Most budget-friendly option. Modern laminates look better than ever. Not repairable if chipped, visible seams at edges. Good for rentals on tight budgets.
Best for
Budget renovations, investment properties
Stunning and timeless but high maintenance. Etches easily with acidic foods, requires frequent sealing. Best in low-use spaces like bathrooms.
Best for
Bathrooms, low-traffic areas, luxury applications

Hardwood vs. MDF — what's the difference?

Solid hardwood cabinet doors are made from species like maple, cherry, oak, or hickory. Heavier, stronger, and able to be refinished or repainted. The grain gives each door natural character that painted MDF can't replicate.
Pros
  • Can be refinished or repainted
  • Natural wood grain character
  • Very strong and durable
  • Higher perceived value
  • Holds screws better over time
Cons
  • Higher cost
  • Can expand with humidity
  • Grain shows through paint
  • Heavier on hinges
MDF is the preferred choice for painted cabinets — no grain to telegraph through the finish. More dimensionally stable in humid environments and typically less expensive, making it dominant in modern painted kitchen designs.
Pros
  • Ultra-smooth painted finish
  • No grain bleed-through
  • More affordable
  • Stable in humid conditions
Cons
  • Cannot be refinished like wood
  • Swells if water gets in edges
  • Less character than natural wood
Popular styles

Two styles defining NH homes right now.

Modern Farmhouse

Trending in NH · Timeless
Modern Farmhouse / Shaker
Clean-lined shaker doors paired with warm wood tones, matte black hardware, and natural textures. This style strikes the perfect balance between cozy and contemporary — especially popular in White Mountains vacation homes and primary residences where you want a relaxed but polished look. Think white or warm gray painted shakers, open shelving, apron sinks, and butcher block or quartz countertops.

Modern Cottage

Up & Coming · Fresh
Modern Cottage
A softer, more layered take on the farmhouse style. Modern cottage leans into sage greens, dusty blues, creamy whites, and natural linen textures. It's warm but airy — less rustic than traditional farmhouse, with more emphasis on collected, curated details. Perfect for NH vacation properties and second homes where you want guests to feel instantly relaxed and at home. This style pairs beautifully with LVP or wide-plank engineered hardwood in lighter tones.

Vacation rentals & investment properties

Loon Mountain condo?
We know this
market.

Lincoln and the White Mountains region has thousands of vacation rental condos, ski properties, and short-term rental units — and most of them need new flooring. We work with Loon Mountain condo owners, Airbnb hosts, and property managers who need durable, good-looking surfaces that can handle heavy rental traffic, pets, and snow season wear. We understand the economics: you need the right product at the right price point that won't need replacing in three years.
